Chitralekha tells Okha that she must go to Dwarka and steal from the Lord's own house, forsaking all thought of food and rest. The journey is eleven thousand yojanas, and she must rob the home of Jagadish himself — and if the Sudarshana Chakra stands in her way, it will sever her head. Okha urges her not to delay: 'Do not keep me waiting — go quickly and bring my husband; why do you hesitate?' As Chitralekha is about to leave, Okha says, 'My husband is handsome, and we were destined to meet as unmarried souls in a dream — so do not let him wear a wedding bangle.' Chitralekha tells her to keep courage: 'He is a hero born of my own mother's line, and he has already wed you in a dream.' Okha replies, 'I am watching the road — he is my beautiful husband, so do not let him cover himself with a veil.' Chitralekha says, 'What talk of veils is this? He is my mother's own son, and he married you in a dream.' With those words, Chitralekha rose like the wind, flew through the sky, and arrived in Dwarka. She bathed in the Gomati river and reflected that stealing from the Lord's house was not a task for one person alone. She then called upon the sage Narada, who came running at once and asked, 'Chitralekha, why have you summoned me?' She explained that Okha, daughter of Banasura, had seen a dream in which Aniruddha came to her bed, and her heart was now restless with longing. She had come to steal him away, but the Sudarshana Chakra stood guard, and so she needed Narada's help. Narada said, 'What difficulty is there in this? I know a dark tantric knowledge by which the entire city will fall into deep sleep.' Chitralekha said, 'That is true, but to deceive the Lord himself — and if the Sudarshana Chakra catches me, it will take my head.' Narada replied, 'Do not worry about the Chakra — I will meet it on the road and keep it busy with conversation.' Narada taught Chitralekha the dark tantric art; she chanted it on her tongue as she walked, the sixty-four powers of Chamunda began to sway and reel, and the entire city fell into a deep slumber — every soul in Dwarka was asleep. Chitralekha, casting aside all anxiety, entered the city. Narada thought to himself that Chitralekha would carry Aniruddha away, and then Shiva and the dark-hued Krishna would clash in battle — a war worth watching. Just then, the Sudarshana Chakra came spinning along on its patrol, and Narada stepped forward to meet it. Narada said to the Chakra, 'You spend all day going round and round — sit with me a moment and let us talk.' The Chakra said, 'Where else would we meet? Tell me truly — does the Lord of Dwarka ever think of me?' The Chakra spoke with joy: 'What great fortune — how could I ever hope for the blessing of your sight!' The innocent Chakra did not understand what was happening; the two sat at ease together, and Chitralekha slipped into the city to carry out her theft. She moved through the palace, passing the chambers of Krishna's son Pradyumna, then went further to where Pradyumna lay sleeping, and further still to where the great hero Aniruddha — mighty bowman, steady and brave — lay wrapped in his sheet in peaceful sleep. Chitralekha thought: 'If I wake him now, there will be a great commotion and a fight.' So she lifted the entire swinging bed from above, chanting 'Jagat Amba, Jagat Amba' as she went. Narada, standing nearby, watched her carry the bed away. Chitralekha took the bed and moved on, invoking the Lord of Vaikuntha in her heart, and flew through the sky at the speed of wind, arriving in Shonitpur within two moments. Narada then thought to himself: 'She has gone and done her work — why should I linger here for nothing?' He turned to the Sudarshana Chakra and said, 'You came out to keep watch, and you sat here like a fool talking with me all this while? Get up and look at your city — another theft has happened, and tomorrow you will blame me for it.' Meanwhile, Okha stood watching from the upper terrace of her palace. Chitralekha arrived, carrying Aniruddha on his bed, and Okha's heart overflowed with joy as she cried, 'Well done, well done — now I shall wake my beloved husband!'

चित्रलेखा ओखाबाई से कहती है कि मुझे द्वारका जाना है और प्रभु के घर में चोरी करनी है — खाने-पीने की सुध छोड़कर। ग्यारह हजार योजन की यात्रा है, जगदीश के घर से चोरी करनी है, और यदि सुदर्शन चक्र आड़े आ गया तो वह मेरा सिर काट देगा। ओखा कहती है, 'मुझे देर मत करा, जल्दी जा और मेरे पति को ले आ — बेकार में क्यों रुकती है?' जाते समय ओखा कहती है, 'मेरा पति बहुत सुंदर है, हम दोनों भाग्य से स्वप्न में मिले हैं, इसलिए उसे चूड़ा मत पहनाना।' चित्रलेखा उसे धैर्य रखने को कहती है — 'मेरी माँ का वीर बेटा है, स्वप्न में ही तुमसे विवाह हो गया।' ओखा फिर कहती है, 'मैं राह देख रही हूँ, मेरा पति सुंदर है, उसे घूँघट मत ओढ़ाना।' चित्रलेखा कहती है, 'घूँघट की बात कहाँ से आई — वह मेरी माँ का भाई है, स्वप्न में ही तुमसे ब्याहा।' यह कहकर चित्रलेखा पवन की गति से उड़ी, आकाश-मार्ग से चली और द्वारका पहुँच गई। वहाँ गोमती नदी में स्नान किया और सोचा कि प्रभु के घर में चोरी करना अकेले का काम नहीं है। तब उसने नारद मुनि का स्मरण किया, और नारद तत्काल दौड़े आए और बोले, 'चित्रलेखा, तुमने मुझे क्यों याद किया?' चित्रलेखा ने बताया कि बाणासुर की बेटी ओखा को स्वप्न आया जिसमें अनिरुद्ध उसकी सेज पर आया, और उसका मन व्याकुल हो गया है। वह चोरी करने आई है, पर सुदर्शन चक्र आड़े आता है, इसलिए सहायता माँगती है। नारद बोले, 'इसमें क्या कठिनाई है — एक तामसी विद्या सिखाता हूँ जिससे पूरा नगर सो जाएगा।' चित्रलेखा बोली, 'सच है, पर जगदीश को धोखा देना — और सुदर्शन चक्र पहरा देता है, यदि पकड़ी गई तो सिर जाएगा।' नारद बोले, 'चक्र की चिंता मत करो, मैं उसे रास्ते में रोककर बातों में उलझा लूँगा।' नारद ने चित्रलेखा को तामसी विद्या सिखाई, वह जीभ पर जप करती हुई चली, चौसठ कलाओं में चामुंडा डोलने लगीं, और पूरा नगर गहरी नींद में डूब गया — सभी लोग सो गए। चित्रलेखा मन का उचाट छोड़कर नगर में घुस गई। नारद मन में सोचते हैं कि चित्रलेखा अनिरुद्ध को ले जाएगी, तब शिव और श्यामल कृष्ण में युद्ध होगा — देखने लायक होगा। तभी सुदर्शन चक्र पहरा देता हुआ उधर आया, और नारद सामने मिले। नारद ने चक्र से कहा, 'सारा दिन घूमते रहते हो — एक घड़ी बैठो, मेरे साथ बातें करो।' चक्र बोला, 'हम कहाँ मिलते हैं — सच बताओ, क्या द्वारका के नाथ कभी मुझे याद करते हैं?' चक्र प्रसन्न होकर बोला, 'धन्य भाग्य, आपके दर्शन कहाँ से मिलते!' भोला चक्र कुछ समझ न सका, दोनों निश्चिंत होकर बैठ गए, और चित्रलेखा नगर में घुसकर चोरी करने चली गई। देखती-देखती वह कृष्ण-पुत्र प्रद्युम्न के भवन के पास पहुँची, वहाँ से आगे गई जहाँ प्रद्युम्न सोया था, और फिर और आगे गई जहाँ विराट-वीर अनिरुद्ध चादर ओढ़े, महाधनुष धारण किए, धैर्यपूर्वक सो रहा था। चित्रलेखा ने सोचा — 'अभी जगाया तो मारपीट हो जाएगी।' इसलिए उसने ऊपर से हिंडोला उठा लिया और 'जगत अंबे, जगत अंबे' का जाप करती हुई चलने लगी। नारद वहीं खड़े थे, उन्होंने चित्रलेखा को हिंडोला लेकर जाते देखा। चित्रलेखा हिंडोला लेकर आगे बढ़ी, वैकुंठ के स्वामी का स्मरण किया, पवन की गति से आकाश-मार्ग से उड़ी, और दो घड़ी में शोणितपुर पहुँच गई। तब नारद ने मन में सोचा — 'वह चली गई, अब मैं भी चलूँ; उसने अपना काम कर लिया, मैं बेकार में क्यों रुकूँ?' फिर नारद ने चक्र से कहा, 'उठो, पहरा देने निकले थे और इतनी देर मूर्ख बनकर मेरे साथ बैठे रहे? उठो, अपना नगर देखो — कल फिर चोरी हो गई, तब मेरा नाम लोगे।' इधर ओखाबाई महल के ऊपरी कक्ष में राह देख रही है। चित्रलेखा अनिरुद्ध को पलंग सहित उठाकर ले आई, ओखा के मन में आनंद की लहर उठी और वह बोल उठी, 'शाबाश, शाबाश — अब मैं अपने पति को जगाती हूँ!'
