Aniruddha awakens from his sleep and gazes around in wonder at the magnificent palace that surrounds him — its splendid halls and beautiful chambers filling him with amazement. Chitralekha approaches him with a respectful bow of her head and says, 'O prince, I brought you here knowingly, for I recognized who you are.' Aniruddha looks at Chitralekha and Okha and says, 'You two women are truly blessed — you appear young and unwed, radiant in your beauty — but tell me, who are you, and for what reason have you brought me to this place?' Chitralekha replies, 'We have brought you here for the purpose of your marriage — so that Okha may become your queen and wedded consort.' Hearing this, Aniruddha hesitates and says with unease, 'If I were to marry the daughter of the demon king Banasura, would that not be a great injustice? How can I, in good conscience, wed the daughter of an Asura?' Thus unfolds the tender yet uncertain conversation between Chitralekha and Aniruddha, as the poet Premanand narrates this moment with devotion and grace.

अनिरुद्ध नींद से जागकर चारों ओर दृष्टि डालते हैं और एक अत्यंत भव्य और सुंदर महल को देखकर चकित रह जाते हैं। तभी चित्रलेखा विनम्रतापूर्वक सिर झुकाकर बोलती है, 'हे कुँवर, मैं आपको पहचानकर, जान-बूझकर यहाँ लेकर आई हूँ।' अनिरुद्ध चित्रलेखा और ओखा को देखकर कहते हैं, 'तुम दोनों नारियाँ धन्य हो — कुँवारी और रूपवती दिखती हो — परंतु मुझे बताओ, तुम कौन हो और किस कारण मुझे यहाँ लाई हो?' चित्रलेखा उत्तर देती है, 'हम आपको ओखा से विवाह कराने के उद्देश्य से यहाँ लाई हैं — ओखा को आपकी पटरानी बनाना चाहती हैं।' यह सुनकर अनिरुद्ध संकोच के साथ कहते हैं, 'असुरराज बाणासुर की पुत्री से विवाह करना तो अन्याय होगा — मैं किसी असुर की कन्या से कैसे विवाह करूँ?' इस प्रकार चित्रलेखा और अनिरुद्ध के बीच स्नेह और संकोच से भरा यह संवाद चलता है, जिसे महाकवि प्रेमानंद भक्तिभाव से अपने काव्य में जीवंत करते हैं।
