Hearing the war cry of the demons, Aniruddha immediately rose to his feet. The minister called out to the warriors, saying that someone bold had spoken up here. Okha threw her arms around her beloved and asked where he thought he was going — what was this eagerness to rush into battle? This was no village of his father's where he could do as he pleased! Aniruddha said, listen, my beautiful one — this matter has already spread everywhere. The demons roared like thunderclouds and the wits of all were scattered. It is our own noise that has stirred this uproar, a clamour like the rumble of storm clouds. So should I simply say 'go, fight!' and send our men charging into that? Come, let us go and sit by the window. And so the two of them — the love-prince Aniruddha and Okha nestled close in his embrace — went and sat together on the balcony, and there, in plain sight, the man and woman both sat and spoke freely, turning the whole situation on its head.

असुरों की हुंकार सुनकर अनिरुद्ध तुरंत उठ खड़ा हुआ। मंत्री ने सैनिकों से कहा कि सुनो, यहाँ कोई वीर योद्धा बोला है। ओखा ने अपने नाथ को बाँहों में भर लिया और पूछा कि कहाँ जा रहे हो? यह लड़ने की क्या जल्दी है, यह कोई तुम्हारे बाप का गाँव नहीं है! नाथ अनिरुद्ध ने कहा, सुंदरी, सुनो — यह बात तो चारों ओर फैल चुकी है। असुर मेघों की तरह गरजे और सबकी बुद्धि भ्रमित हो गई। हमारी ही आवाज़ से यह शोर उठा है, मेघ-गर्जना जैसा कोलाहल मच गया है। तो क्या मैं 'जाओ, युद्ध करो' कहकर उन्हें धकेल दूँ? दानव के सामने मानव जीत नहीं सकता, और यह ऋतु-संग्राम का समय भी नहीं है। दानव के सामने मानव जीत नहीं सकता, और यह ऋतु-संग्राम का समय भी नहीं है। अब हम चोरी-छिपे क्यों रहें? चलो, खिड़की के पास जाकर बैठते हैं। इस तरह काम-कुँवर अनिरुद्ध और ओखा दोनों छज्जे पर जा बैठे — ओखा उनकी गोद में समा गई — और वे नर-नारी दोनों वहाँ खुलेआम बैठकर उलटी-सीधी बातें करने लगे।
