Usha desperately implores her companion to bring her the handsome man she saw in a dream, describing his long arms, crocodile-shaped earrings, dark complexion, and thirty-two auspicious marks. Chitralekha responds by questioning why Usha is acting ignorant, noting that the well-guarded city of Dwaraka with its spinning Sudarshana Chakra is where this man resides. Usha insists she will take her own life if her beloved is not brought to her.

Translation

ઓખા ચિત્રલેખાને આજીજી કરતાં કહે છે: 'સૈયર, એ વર મને લઈ આવ, મને એ વર આણી આપ — નહીંતર હું મારો પ્રાણ કાઢી નાખીશ, એ વર મને આણી આપ.' ઓખા કહે છે કે સ્વપ્નમાં મેં એક છોગાળો — મોરપીંછ ધારી સુંદર — જોયો છે, તેની પાંપણોની ચાળ મારા મનમાં ઘર કરી ગઈ છે; એ લટકાળા યુવાનની અદાએ મારું મન હરી લીધું છે, તો એ વર મને આણી આપ. જેના બાહુ આજાનબાહુ — ઘૂંટણ સુધી લાંબા — છે, કાનમાં મકરાકૃત કુંડળ ઝળહળે છે, અને ભીના — શ્યામ — વાનથી એનું અંગ અંગ શોભી ઊઠે છે, એ વર મને આણી આપ. જેનાં બત્રીસ શુભ લક્ષણ છે, જે ગઈ કાલે સ્વપ્નમાં મને પરણી ગયો, અને જેની સાથે ગોઠવાતાં મને દસ-બાર વર્ષ જેટલો સમય વીત્યો હોય એવું લાગ્યું, એ વર મને આણી આપ. જેની ચાલ લટકતી ને મોહક છે, જે ગઈ કાલ મને પરણ્યો, ગોરા ગાલ પર ટપકું શોભે છે, એ વર મને આણી આપ. જે રાજવી ઠાઠથી પીળું પીતાંબર ધારણ કરીને આવ્યો, પણ જતી વખતે પોતાનું નામ સુધ્ધાં ન કહ્યું — ત્યારે ભલા, મારું કામ ક્યાંથી સરે? — એ વર મને આણી આપ. ત્યારે ચિત્રલેખા બોલી: 'સૈયર, તું આટલી અજાણ કેમ થઈ ગઈ? દ્વારકા નગરી કોણ ન ઓળખે?' પણ ઓખા કહે છે: 'ભલે, પણ એ નગરીના કોટ-કાંગરે ચામુંડા બિરાજે છે, ભીતર છપ્પન કરોડ ચોકીદારો ચોકી ભરે છે, અને ત્યાં ભગવાનનું ઝળહળતું સુદર્શન ચક્ર ફરે છે — આ બધાની વચ્ચે મારા હૈયાના હેલામાં વસેલો એ વર મને આણી આપ.'

Usha pleads desperately with Chitralekha: 'Bring him to me, dear friend — bring me that husband of my dreams! If you do not, I shall take my own life — bring him to me, I beg you.' She describes him with longing: in her dream she saw a beautiful youth adorned with a peacock-feather crest, and the very flutter of his eyelashes has taken hold of her heart; his graceful, swaying gait has stolen her mind entirely, so she implores Chitralekha to bring him to her. His arms reach down to his knees like those of a great hero, his ears are graced with crocodile-shaped earrings, and his body glows with a dark, lustrous complexion — bring that husband to her. He bore thirty-two auspicious marks upon his body; in the dream he married her just last night, and yet the time she spent with him felt like ten or twelve full years — bring that husband to her. His walk was charming and full of grace, he wed her in that dream just yesterday, and a beauty spot adorned his fair cheek — bring that husband to her. He came dressed in royal yellow silk, a pitambara fit for a king, yet when he departed he did not even tell her his name — how then, she asks, can her longing ever be fulfilled? Bring that husband to her. At this, Chitralekha speaks up: 'Dear friend, how can you be so unaware? Who in all the world does not know the city of Dwarka?' Yet Usha's heart is not eased, for she knows that Dwarka's ramparts are guarded by the goddess Chamunda herself, fifty-six crore sentinels stand watch within its walls, and the blazing Sudarshana Chakra of the Lord whirls there in protection — and yet, even so, she cries out that the one who dwells within the longing of her heart must be brought to her.
