Okha weeps with a sweet yet heartbroken cry, lamenting aloud: 'My beloved is being taken away, dear friend — I cannot bear this; any moment now someone will come and tell me that my love has been killed.' She wails on: 'These are the sins of my past lives — why else would I suffer such agony? Why does this sinful father not die? May the sky itself fall and crush him! How can anyone endure such blows raining down on my beloved's tender body? That cruel man has not a drop of mercy in him. I have been made a widow while still in my girlhood.' Chitralekha then tries to calm Okha, saying: 'Do not weep, dear friend — no real harm will come to your husband; let me go and reason with them so that his life is spared.' Chitralekha goes straight to her own father, the minister, and stands before him with a plea: 'Father, listen carefully and carry this counsel to the king — that young man is the son of a great house; if you cut off his head, you will make terrible enemies of Balarama and the Lord of the universe, Krishna himself. His ancestors pressed down the netherworld by their might alone — such is his lineage; if you kill him without thought, you will lose both home and kingdom.' Chitralekha then accompanies the minister to King Banasura and speaks directly: 'O king, do not slay him — he is the child of a great family. Okha has already married him; no one else will take her now, and the blame will rest on your head. People everywhere will say you killed your own son-in-law — that is the reproach you will earn. Therefore, rather than killing him with your own hand, cast him into a prison cell; remember, he alone slew ten lakh warriors — this is no small matter. Seal him inside an iron dungeon, coil serpents around him, ring the cell with fire, dig water-filled moats behind it, and post many guards — the venom of the snakes will consume him.' Heeding Chitralekha's counsel, Banasura had Aniruddha bound in chains, wound serpents all around him, and the prince who was the very embodiment of love was thus imprisoned. Then the king roared like a thundercloud, had Okha removed and confined to her chambers, and after imprisoning Aniruddha, Banasura strode back into his palace.

ओखा मीठे और करुण स्वर में रोते हुए विलाप करती है: 'सखी, मेरे प्रियतम को उठाकर ले जा रहे हैं, मुझसे यह सहा नहीं जाता; अभी कोई आकर कहेगा कि मेरे पिया को मार डाला।' वह आगे रोती है: 'ये मेरे पूर्व जन्मों के पाप हैं, वरना मुझे इतना बड़ा संताप क्यों मिलता? यह पापी बाप मरता क्यों नहीं? ईश्वर करे, इस बाप के सिर पर आकाश टूट पड़े! मेरे प्रियतम की कोमल देह पर ऐसे-ऐसे प्रहार — यह कैसे सहा जाए? उस दुष्ट को जरा भी दया नहीं है। मैं तो बचपन में ही विधवापन भोगने आ गई।' तब चित्रलेखा ओखा को समझाती है: 'बाई, रो मत, तेरे पति को कोई हानि नहीं होगी; मैं जाकर समझाती हूँ ताकि उनके प्राण बचें।' चित्रलेखा सीधे अपने पिता मंत्री के पास जाकर खड़ी होती है और विनती करती है: 'पिताजी, ध्यान से सुनिए और यह बात राजा को समझाइए — वह लड़का एक महान वंश का पुत्र है; यदि उसका सिर काटा तो बलराम और जगदीश कृष्ण जैसे भयंकर शत्रु सिर पर आ खड़े होंगे। उसके पूर्वजों ने अपने बल से पाताल को दबा दिया था — ऐसे हैं उसके पराक्रम; बिना सोचे मारोगे तो घर और नगर दोनों खो बैठोगे।' चित्रलेखा मंत्री के साथ राजा बाणासुर के पास जाकर कहती है: 'राजन, इसे मत मारिए — यह महान घर का बालक है। ओखा इससे विवाह कर चुकी है, अब कोई दूसरा उसे नहीं अपनाएगा और सिर पर कलंक लगेगा; लोग कहेंगे कि दामाद को मार डाला — ऐसी गाली मिलेगी। इसलिए अपने हाथ से वध करने के बजाय इसे कारागृह में डालिए; इसने अकेले दस लाख सैनिक मारे — यह छोटी बात नहीं है। इसे वज्र की कोठरी में बंद करो, चारों ओर सर्प लपेटो, आग जलाओ, पीछे जल की खाइयाँ खुदवाओ और बहुत से पहरेदार लगाओ — सर्प के विष से यह बालक जल जाएगा।' चित्रलेखा की बात मानकर बाणासुर ने अनिरुद्ध को बंधन में डाल दिया, चारों ओर सर्प लपेट दिए, और प्रेम के राजकुमार ओखा के प्रियतम अनिरुद्ध इस प्रकार कैद हो गए। इसके बाद राजा बादल की तरह गरजा, ओखा को उठवाकर उसके महल में भेज दिया, और अनिरुद्ध को बंदी बनाकर बाणासुर अपने भवन में चला गया।
