Aniruddha is revealed before Kaubhanda — warriors had gathered in a crowd, eager to see the pair, and there sat Okha in Aniruddha's lap, her arms wrapped lovingly around his neck; at the sight of this, a flame of fury blazed up in Kaubhanda's heart. His brow furrowed and his forehead darkened with rage as he summoned his soldiers at once. The minister remarked, 'Brother, this young man is powerfully handsome — he shines like the Lord Hari himself resting at ease.' Though small in stature, this auspicious youth sat boldly beside Okha in the very chamber where not even a bird's wing could touch — how had he entered? On the balcony, the two sat utterly shameless and fearless, laughing and sporting together as though they had forgotten all modesty. Okha, for her part, was causing an uproar, chasing the soldiers away again and again; the minister observed, 'This man is no ordinary person — there is clearly some deeper reason behind this.' His eyes were lotus-hued, his brows drawn tight in a smouldering anger, his hair standing on end, his gaze flickering — as though he were ready to fight. All the soldiers surrounded them and shouted aloud; Kaubhanda cried, 'You wretch, come down from there!' Then, in anger, he declared, 'O short-lived one, you shall surely go to Yama's realm; even surrounded by demon-like enemies, how do you sit so composed? Banasura's daughter — whom even Indra would not dare to slander — and yet you have climbed up to sit beside this royal princess! Speak the truth if you wish to keep your head — what caste, what lineage, what village? How did you reach Okha's chamber?' Aniruddha replied calmly, 'Hear me, soldiers — I am the son of a Kshatriya, I have come of my own will, and this kingdom of Bana is as much mine as anyone's.' The minister retorted, 'Speak carefully, boy — your pride will be brought low; who gave this fleeting youth the right to take a bride?' 'You are a trespasser — come down, by the command of King Bana; this demon will take your life, consider death already upon you.' 'If you value your life, do not make this mistake; if you are truly a lion, rise and fight — otherwise you appear to be nothing but a brief flame.' Having seen and heard all of this, Kaubhanda turned back and went straight to King Bana, recounting everything. The moment Bana heard, he dispatched four hundred thousand warriors without delay; Okha saw that vast army approaching and felt a cold dread grip her heart.

कौभांड के सामने अनिरुद्ध का प्रकट होना — उस जोड़े को देखने के लिए योद्धाओं की भीड़ जमा हो गई थी, और वहाँ ओखा अनिरुद्ध की गोद में बैठी थी, अपनी बाँहें उसके गले में डाले हुए; यह दृश्य देखकर कौभांड के मन में क्रोध की ज्वाला भड़क उठी। उसका माथा तन गया, भौंहें चढ़ गईं और उसने तुरंत अपने सैनिकों को बुलाया। मंत्री बोला, 'भाई, यह युवक बड़ा बलशाली और सुंदर है — मानो स्वयं हरि किसी की गोद में विराजमान हों।' छोटे कद का होने पर भी यह लक्षणवान युवक ओखा के साथ उस कक्ष में निर्भय बैठा था, जहाँ पक्षी का पंख भी नहीं पहुँच सकता — वह वहाँ कैसे घुस गया? छज्जे पर दोनों बेशर्म और निडर होकर बैठे थे, हँसी-मज़ाक कर रहे थे, मानो लाज-शर्म भूल ही गए हों। ओखा तो उत्पात मचाए हुए थी, बार-बार दौड़कर सैनिकों को भगा रही थी; प्रधान ने कहा, 'यह पुरुष साधारण नहीं है, इसके पीछे कोई बड़ा कारण दिखता है।' उसकी आँखें कमल जैसी थीं, भौंहें क्रोध से तनी हुईं, रोम-रोम खड़े, और टिमटिमाती दृष्टि — मानो लड़ने को तैयार हो। सभी सैनिकों ने घेरा डाल दिया और ऊँची आवाज़ में गरजे; कौभांड चिल्लाया, 'अरे व्यभिचारी, नीचे उतर!' तब क्रोध में बोला, 'ओ अल्पायु प्राणी, तू सच में यमपुरी जाएगा; असुरों जैसे शत्रुओं से घिरा होकर भी तू इतना निश्चिंत कैसे बैठा है? बाणासुर की बेटी — जिस पर इंद्र भी कलंक नहीं लगा सकता — उस राजकुमारी के साथ तू चढ़कर बैठ गया! सच बता, अगर सिर बचाना हो — कौन सी जाति, कौन सा कुल, कौन सा गाँव? ओखा के महल तक कैसे पहुँचा?' तब अनिरुद्ध ने उत्तर दिया, 'सुनो, सैनिकों — मैं क्षत्रिय-पुत्र हूँ, अपनी इच्छा से आया हूँ, और बाण का यह राज्य मेरा भी उतना ही अधिकार है।' मंत्री बोला, 'अरे, सोचकर बोल — घमंड उतर जाएगा; इस क्षणभंगुर बालक को किसने कन्यादान दिया?' 'अपराधी, नीचे उतर — बाण-राजा की आज्ञा है; यह दानव तेरे प्राण लेगा, मृत्यु समझ ले आ गई।' 'अगर जीने की इच्छा है तो भूल मत कर; सिंह हो तो उठ, वरना क्षणभंगुर ही दिखते हो।' यह सब देख-सुनकर कौभांड वापस लौटा और राजा बाण के पास जाकर सारी बात कह सुनाई। सुनते ही बाण ने चार लाख योद्धा तत्काल भेज दिए; ओखा ने वह विशाल सेना आते देखी और भय से उसका कलेजा काँप उठा।
